SOFIA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Burgas has become the first municipality in Bulgaria to implement artificial intelligence (AI) technology developed in the country, authorities said on Friday.
BgGPT, which was developed by the Sofia-based Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) and launched at the end of November, would be used to serve citizens and businesses, the country's Ministry of Education and Science and Burgas Municipality said in a joint statement.
The implementation of the pilot project in Burgas was already underway and was expected to be fully rolled out in the coming weeks and months, the statement said.
It was to be upgraded into a national program, it said.
The AI would synthesize all decisions of the Burgas Municipal Council, presenting them to citizens in a synthesized form, indexed on various topics and sessions. This would help citizens be better informed about the decisions made, and find information on topics that directly affect them, it said.
At the same time, an AI chatbot would be launched on the local administration's website to direct citizens to the proper municipal service or provide relevant municipal information, the statement said.
Burgas Municipality has already been using AI in its work processes, but until now this has been done by purchasing packages from foreign companies, it said. ■
