Vietnam enjoys 16.46 bln USD trade surplus in agro-forestry-fishery sector

HANOI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam posted a trade surplus of 16.46 billion U.S. dollars in the agro-forestry-fishery sector in the first 11 months of this year, surging 52.8 percent year on year, Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday, citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The sector raked in 5.3 billion dollars from exports during the cited period, up 13.9 percent from the same period last year, said the report.

Among product categories, forestry products earned the highest trade surplus with 13.05 billion dollars, up 18.7 percent year on year, followed by fishery products with 6.88 billion dollars, up 17.5 percent and agricultural products with 4.72 billion dollars, up 3.1 times.

Vietnam had seven agro-forestry-fishery products obtaining over 1 billion dollars of trade surplus in 11 months including wood and timber products (12.11 billion dollars), vegetables (4.56 billion dollars), coffee (4.53 billion dollars) and rice (4.07 billion dollars).

Asia was the largest importer of Vietnamese agro-forestry-aquatic products from January to September, according to the ministry.
