Indonesia's banking credit growth reaches 10.92 pct in October

JAKARTA, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's banking credit expanded by 10.92 percent year on year in October, according to Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo on Wednesday.

"The growth of banking credit remained strong in October, accelerating by 10.92 percent," Warjiyo said during a press conference, adding that the total credit disbursed amounted to 259 trillion rupiah (around 16.3 billion U.S. dollars) in the month.

Breaking down the usage of loans, investment credit showed the highest growth at 13.63 percent, followed by consumption credit at 11.01 percent, and working capital loans at 9.25 percent, according to a press release by the central bank.

It expects overall banking credit growth to range between 10 percent and 12 percent for the year.

To support economic growth and maintain rupiah stability, the central bank kept its benchmark interest rate steady at 6.00 percent on Wednesday.
