Myanmar kicks off traditional cultural performing arts competition

YANGON, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar kicked off its 25th traditional cultural performing arts competition in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Tuesday.

Speaking at the event, Myanmar's State Administration Council Chairman, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, said that the national races of Myanmar have lived together in unity for thousands of years, creating a strong cultural foundation that allows the country to proudly stand in the world with its unique style.

He added that the performing arts competition plays an important role in the long-term preservation and promotion of national culture, the report said.

A total of 2,584 contestants are participating in various events at the national level of the traditional cultural performing arts competition, the report added.

The competition, featuring contestants from regions and states across the country, will run until Oct. 20.
