MIES, Switzerland, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has opened a new office in Jakarta, Indonesia, following the successful co-hosting of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the global basketball governing body announced on Tuesday.

FIBA Indonesia will focus on developing basketball at all levels across the country, particularly on grassroots programs, organizational growth, and strengthening basketball institutions.

Top FIBA officials, including FIBA President Sheikh Saud Ali Al-Thani, FIBA Treasurer Ingo Weiss, and FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, along with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo, attended the opening ceremony in Jakarta.

"The FIBA Indonesia office will play a crucial role in supporting basketball development at all levels, with a strong focus on grassroots programs and empowering the local basketball community," Zagklis said.

The FIBA Indonesia office will be led by Rufiana, who was part of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Jakarta.
