SEOUL, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume grew for the 12th successive month due to strong demand for locally-made oil and tech products, central bank data showed Friday.

The export volume index advanced 5.1 percent in August from a year earlier, continuing to increase since September 2023, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

In terms of volume, the outbound shipment for computer, electronic and optical devices, including semiconductors, gained 8.3 percent in August on a yearly basis, keeping an upward trend for the 13th straight month.

Export volume for coal and oil products jumped 20.1 percent, but those for chemicals, textiles, transport equipment and machinery reduced by single digits.

The export value index expanded 8.3 percent in August compared to the same month of last year after soaring 14.8 percent in the previous month.

The import volume index added 2.7 percent in August from a year earlier, while the import value index went up 5.4 percent in the same month.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export prices to import prices, rose 0.5 percent in August from a year earlier owing to faster growth in export prices than import prices.
