BANGKOK, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's consumer confidence fell for the sixth successive month in August, hitting the lowest level in 13 months, due to concerns over sluggish economic recovery, lower incomes and flooding situations in the country's northern region, a survey showed on Thursday.

According to the survey of 2,245 respondents conducted by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the consumer confidence index declined to 56.5 last month from 57.7 in July as all components of the index decreased.

Elevated interest rates amid a high household debt and prolonged geopolitical tensions were also attributed to the worsening sentiment, the university said in a statement.

Despite that, improved political conditions following the appointment of Paetongtarn Shinawatra as the Southeast Asian nation's new prime minister, along with increased inbound foreign tourists, exports, and higher income for farmers, contributed to an optimistic outlook.
