ULAN BATOR, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- An imported case of measles has been confirmed in Mongolia, according to the country's National Center for Communicable Disease (NCCD) on Thursday.
"The patient is a 47-year-old Mongolian citizen who recently returned from abroad. Over 150 individuals who had close contact with the patient have been identified and vaccinated," Jantsansengee Baigalmaa, head of the NCCD, told a press conference.
She urged citizens to adhere to infection prevention measures, including wearing masks in public places, washing hands regularly, and getting vaccinated against measles at least 14 days before traveling to countries where the infection has been reported.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease transmitted by respiratory droplets and direct contact. The disease can be prevented by immunization. Common complications include fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat and inflamed eyes.
There is no specific treatment for measles, and most people recover within two to three weeks. ■
