Cambodia records 7.4-pct drop in tax revenue in H1 2024

PHNOM PENH, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's General Department of Taxation (GDT) recorded a year-on-year drop of 7.4 percent in tax revenue during the first half of 2024, said its press statement on Thursday.

The GDT had collected a total of 1,918 million U.S. dollars in tax revenue during the January-June period this year, a decrease of 7.4 percent from 2,072 million dollars over the same period last year, the statement said.

"The GDT had achieved 46.06 percent of the target set in the 2024 budget law," GDT Director General Kong Vibol said in the statement.

The GDT has set its goal to collect a total of 4,164 million dollars in 2024, according to the statement.

The GDT is responsible for collecting interior taxes such as the tax on profit, withholding tax, tax on salary, value-added tax, special tax on certain merchandise and services, turnover tax, vehicle tax, patent tax, and property tax.
