KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered more than 2 tonnes of illegal drugs including heroin and destroyed poppy farms in south Afghanistan's Kandahar province over the past two days, provincial police spokesperson Mullah Asadullah Jamshid said Monday.

The contraband, which included hashish, heroin and objects used in manufacturing heroin, have been discovered and destroyed during a series of operations since Saturday, the official said.

Police also destroyed 1.5 acres of poppy farms over the period, the official added.

The Afghan caretaker government banned poppy cultivation, its processing into drugs, and drug trafficking in April 2022.
