NEW DELHI, July 6 (Xinhua) -- At least four persons were feared to be trapped under the debris of a building which collapsed in India's western state of Gujarat on Saturday amid incessant rains over the past few days, a local police officer told Xinhua over phone.
The mishap occurred in Sachin area of the state's Surat district. The ill-fated building was said to be nearly eight to nine years old, but in a dilapidated condition.
TV news channels showed one injured woman being rescued by the local firemen. She was admitted to a local hospital. Efforts were on to rescue others trapped under the rubble.
Local media reports quoted Surat's Commissioner of Police Anupam Singh Gehlot as saying that it might take a couple of hours to rescue those still trapped.
"We can hear their voices from inside the rubble. They will be rescued within an hour or two," he reportedly said. ■
