KABUL, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan caretaker government has congratulated the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on having a new president and hoped for further enhancing bilateral relations between the two neighboring nations, reported the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) on Sunday.
"We hope that relations between Kabul and Tehran will be further strengthened with the new Iranian government," RTA quoted the statement of the Afghan foreign ministry as saying.
Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran's former health minister, won the country's 14th presidential election, Iran's Election Headquarters Spokesperson Mohsen Eslami announced on Saturday. ■
