KABUL, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan caretaker government's national procurement commission has certified 12 projects worth 5 billion afghanis (about 70.4 million U.S. dollars), the acting deputy prime minister for economic affairs office said in a statement Sunday.

The participants of the commission, led by Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, discussed and reviewed 22 procurement projects in different sectors which resulted in approval of 12 of them.

The ratified projects included the construction of health centers in remote areas, asphalting the second phase of Badghis-Faryab highway, construction of retaining walls along the highway, and installing insulators at Noor-ul-Jihad substation in western Herat province, the statement added.

The commission has endorsed 14 procurement projects worth about 56 million dollars in June.

The projects were expected to provide job opportunities to hundreds of thousands of local residents.
