WELLINGTON, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The New Zealand police have stopped antisocial road users in their tracks with impoundments, infringements and arrests.
The police have caused significant disruption to antisocial road user gatherings overnight in the capital Wellington, Canterbury and Manawatu, a police statement said on Saturday.
Groups were intercepted before they could get established at different locations, meaning they were unable to participate in activities such as skids or racing, and gatherings of vehicle enthusiasts, it said.
"Recent behavior from antisocial road users has been particularly concerning," said Acting Wellington District Commander Nick Thom, encouraging anyone who witnesses this type of activity to report it to police.
Acting Canterbury District Commander Lane Todd said a number of "skid meets" were able to be disrupted and closed down, as they were dangerous and could put lives at risk. ■
