SEOUL, June 17 (Xinhua) -- More than 1,000 doctors in South Korea will face probe over kickbacks from a drugmaker, Yonhap news agency said Monday citing the Seoul metropolitan police agency.

The doctors were suspected of receiving kickbacks in cash and other valuables, which ranged from millions of won to tens of millions of won per individual, from Korean Drug Co.

The Seoul police had allegedly investigated the drugmaker for giving bribes to doctors, who prescribed its medicine in return for the kickbacks.

Eight officials of the drugmaker and 14 doctors had been booked after the investigation.

The police opened a possibility to expand the investigation to other drugmakers. (1 U.S. dollar equals 1,380.50 won).
