VIENTIANE, June 4 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government will continue to improve the living standards of farmers in northern Laos' Bokeo province and help them earn higher incomes from farming.

Laos' Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, in cooperation with Plan International Laos, launched the second phase of the Rural Enterprise for Agricultural Livelihood (REAL) project aimed at empowering over 2,000 households in Bokeo province by enhancing their capacity and skills, Lao News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Plan International Laos is an independent development and humanitarian organization that advances children's rights and equality for girls. It began operating in Laos in 2007.

The second phase will cover the period from 2024 to 2026 and will target five districts in Bokeo province, some 350 km northwest of the Lao capital Vientiane.

The project is aimed at contributing to rural economic development and poverty reduction by improving livelihoods, generating revenue and enhancing the living standards of target households through their engagement in profitable agribusiness and employment opportunities.

The project supports Bokeo's efforts to modernize agriculture and improve food security. The project will also focus on enhancing economic opportunities and integrating smallholders in value chains, according to the report.
