SEOUL, June 3 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping logged double-digit growth in April due to solid demand for food, travel, culture, car accessories and e-coupon services, statistical office data showed Monday.
Shopping in cyberspace stood at 19.80 trillion won (14.4 billion U.S. dollars) in April, up 10.5 percent compared to the same month of last year, according to Statistics Korea.
Transaction of agricultural, livestock and fishery products in cyberspace soared 26.2 percent, while demand for food and beverage advanced 18.0 percent in the cited month.
Online demand for travel and transport services spiked 14.7 percent, and online transactions of e-coupon services gained 13.4 percent amid the spreading trend to provide gifts such as coffee and cake through e-coupons.
Online purchases of car accessories surged 28.0 percent, while those for culture and leisure services, daily necessities, home appliances and furniture expanded in double digits.
Mobile shopping through smartphones increased 11.9 percent over the year to 14.80 trillion won (10.7 billion dollars) in April. ■
