KABUL, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered 100 kg of illicit drugs including heroin in south Afghanistan's Helmand province, a local official reported on Friday.
The contraband was seized during a routine operation conducted by police in the province's Washir district along the highway linking western Herat province with the southern Kandahar province, said Mullah Ezatullah Haqani, spokesman for the Helmand provincial police office.
Two persons were arrested on charges of drug trafficking, said Haqani, adding that their dossiers were referred to the judiciary for further investigation.
Similarly, Afghan police have discovered illegal arms and ammunition in the vicinity of Lashkar Gah city, the provincial capital of the province over the past 24 hours. ■
