NEW DELHI, May 22 (Xinhua) -- At least six persons, including two children, were feared drowned when a boat carrying them capsized in a dam in India's southwestern state of Maharashtra late Tuesday evening, a local police officer said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the backwaters of Ujani dam in the state's Pune district, amid rains and strong winds in the area.
There were a total of seven persons onboard the ill-fated boat when it capsized. One of them swam to safety, while the rest six were feared drowned.
Rescue work by the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force was being carried out to locate those drowned, the police said, adding that the boat was on its regular journey ferrying passengers between two villages in the area. ■
