KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed following the collapse of a huge tree in Kuala Lumpur city center on Tuesday.

The victim was a 47-year-old man, the Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department said in a statement, adding that another 26-year-old suffered injuries.

A total of 17 cars were damaged, blocking a major road and a monorail track above the site of the collapsed tree which fell following strong winds and heavy rain on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency personnel were working to clear the tree and debris to restore the flow of traffic, the statement said.
