MANILA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Three Filipinos working in Dubai have died in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) record-breaking rainfall this week, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Thursday night.

In a statement, DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Cacdac said two women died of suffocation after they were trapped inside their car, while a man died after his vehicle hit a sinkhole.

Cacdac said its offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are working closely with the Philippine Embassy and Consulate General to coordinate with Filipino communities and assist overseas Filipino workers.

According to Cacdac, there are 648,929 Filipinos in Dubai. "None have requested to be repatriated," he added.

The UAE observed unprecedented rainfall on Tuesday, marking the highest recorded rainfall in the last 75 years since climate records started in 1949.
