KABUL, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Thirty-three people have lost their lives and 27 others sustained injuries as heavy rain, snowfall and flash floods swept through parts of Afghanistan over the past three days, spokesman for the national disaster authority Mullah Janan Saeq said Sunday.
Almost half of Afghanistan's 34 provinces including Kabul have been receiving heavy rains or snowfall since Friday, which have triggered flash floods in parts of the country causing losses of life and property damages.
"Due to heavy rains, snowfall and flooding in several provinces including Parwan, Uruzgan and Panjshir, 33 people have lost their lives and 27 others sustained injuries," Saeq said.
More than 600 houses have been damaged due to the floods, the official said, adding that the flash floods have also destroyed 1,950 acres of agricultural lands and 75 km of roads in the country, besides killing more than 200 cattle.
Saeq also noted that the aid agencies with the support of the authorities have provided humanitarian assistance to 22,851 flood-affected families and the process of supplying assistance to the affected areas continues. ■
