Businesses in Vietnam worst affected by cyber threats in Southeast Asia: report

HANOI, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Businesses in Vietnam were the worst affected with 17.1 million cyber threat incidents, local media VnExpress reported Monday, citing global cybersecurity company Kaspersky.

It was followed by Indonesia and Thailand with 14.6 million and 4.7 million incidents respectively.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications, as many as 1,812 cyberattacks were detected in Vietnam so far this year, a drop of 38 percent compared to the same period last year.

The ministry will develop and issue a guidebook on information system security by levels in the second quarter.

According to Kaspersky, Southeast Asia saw nearly 43 million local threats targeting businesses in 2023. Singapore recorded a 67-percent increase in local incidents, from 300,000 in 2022 to 500,000, the lowest in the region.

Adrian Hia, managing director for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky, said: "Southeast Asia shows solid potential to become a major manufacturing hub globally. The region is also consistent in charting steady digital economic growth through the years."
