COLOMBO, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The monthly consumer inflation of Sri Lanka capital Colombo urban areas dropped to 0.9 percent in March from 5.9 percent in February, the Department of Census and Statistics said on Thursday.

The department said the inflation in the food category is at 3.8 percent, an increase from 3.5 percent in February. The inflation in the non-food category has decreased to -0.5 percent from 7 percent in February.

The Sri Lankan central bank said earlier that the country's inflation is anticipated to gradually stabilize at the targeted level of 5 percent over the medium term, following a short-lived acceleration of inflation in the near term on account of recent tax adjustments and supply-side disruptions.
