Malaysia's producer price index up 0.3 pct in February

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI), which measures the price changes of goods at the producer level, increased by 0.3 percent in February, rebounded from a negative 0.6 percent in January, official data showed Wednesday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector grew 6 percent, while the mining sector rose 5.3 percent.

Meanwhile, the water supply index went up 3.6 percent; the electricity and gas supply sector increased by 0.1 percent.

The manufacturing sector, on the other hand, continued to decline by 0.7 percent.

On a monthly basis, the PPI local production increased by 0.7 percent after a decline of 0.1 percent in the previous month.
