SYDNEY, March 1 (Xinhua) -- A male pilot was critically injured after a light plane crashed in Western Australia on Friday, according to local media.

Daily newspaper The West Australian reported that emergency services attended the crash site in Bunbury Airport at approximately 2:45 p.m. local time.

The privately-owned aircraft "crashed at the end of the runway on the eastern side of the South West Highway," Western Australia Police Force was quoted as saying.

The man was believed to have suffered critical trauma, including a shattered pelvis and facial injuries.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation also noted that the pilot was trapped inside the wreckage for almost half an hour before being extracted out at about 3:10 p.m. local time.

He was later airlifted to a hospital in Perth. Bunbury Airport is located about 170 km south of Perth.
