COLOMBO, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- The consumer inflation of Sri Lanka's capital Colombo urban areas was down 5.9 percent in February from 6.4 percent in January, the Department of Census and Statistics said on Thursday.

The food inflation has, however, increased to 3.5 percent from 3.3 percent during the period, while the inflation in the non-food category dropped to 7 percent from 7.9 percent during the same period, the department said.

The Sri Lankan Central Bank said earlier that the country's inflation is anticipated to gradually stabilize at the targeted level of 5 percent over the medium term, following a short-lived acceleration of inflation in the near term on account of recent tax adjustments and supply-side disruptions.
