SINGAPORE, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Social media giant Meta refused to place safeguards against scams on Facebook and led to the happening of plenty of scam cases, Minister of State for Home Affairs Ministry Sun Xueling told the Parliament Thursday.
"Facebook contributed close to 50 percent of e-commerce scam cases in 2023. I urged Meta to step up and to do right by your users," Sun said.
She noted that other platforms like Shoppe and Carousell worked closely with the Home Affairs Ministry and the police to guard against online scams.
Scams using social engineering accounted for 92 percent of scam losses or about 600 million Singapore dollars (446 million U.S. dollars) in 2023, Sun said. ■
