ISLAMABAD, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan needs to address its system's constraints such as reducing the volume of unserved energy and accommodating the intermittency of renewable energy to realize its renewable energy plans, experts said here during a seminar on Wednesday.

The addition of renewable energy is non-negotiable in today's climate, but this should be coupled with modernization of the grid, the experts said during the online seminar on Pakistan's renewable energy organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), an Islamabad-based think tank.

Speaking on the occasion, Sadia Dada, chief marketing and communications officer at K-Electric, a Pakistani electricity company, said that renewable energy programs are being made in alignment with national targets under the Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP).

These programs entail a long-term optimal cost strategy plan for the expansive growth of power generation within a set of prevailing policies and technical and socio-economic considerations, she added.

Citing international examples, Fozan Waheed, a renewable energy expert, said that the sustainability and success of Pakistan's energy sector rests in its ability to learn from the best practices of leaders in the energy space.
