VIENTIANE, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- An event aimed at improving the competitiveness of local manufacturers was recently held in Laos, said a report of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) on Tuesday.
Organized by LNCCI, the half-day session held in Lao capital Vientiane last Friday was themed "Building quality products to compete in the domestic market based on international standards."
Chaired by Vice President of LNCCI Chanthachone Vongsay, the event was attended by more than 60 representatives from various companies, associations and business units from the production sector.
The purpose of the gathering was to exchange information among those interested in selling their goods in convenience stores and various leading brand stores in Laos. In order to improve the quality of their products, companies must follow certain standards and management systems, the report quoted some experts as saying.
In order to boost the economy and tackle inflation, the Lao government is seeking to promote domestic production and reduce the import of products that can be produced domestically.
The LNCCI, under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, organizes various activities to promote Lao products and brands in the region and beyond. ■
