KABUL, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The value of Afghan national currency afghani has appreciated 15.42 percent against the U.S. dollar in the current year, Noor Ahmad Agha, deputy governor of Da Afghanistan Bank, has said.
"The national currency afghani has strengthened this year by 15.42 percent against the U.S. dollar," Agha said Monday at the central bank's social media X account, formerly Twitter.
Moreover, he said: "New banknotes have been printed and have been sent to the country."
"Old banknotes worth 4.7 billion afghanis have been destroyed in five zones of the country over the past year," he added.
In the meantime, the existing rate is for 1 U.S. dollar to equal 73 afghanis at the local money exchange market in the central Asian country. ■
