2 killed in single-vehicle road accident in Indonesia's West Java

JAKARTA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two passengers died in the Indonesian province of West Java early Wednesday after a car fatally crashed into a wall fence, local police said.

The accident took place in Sukabumi, about 90 km away from Bandung, the provincial capital city, at around 2:30 a.m. local time when the driver allegedly lost control after overtaking a car on the highway, Sukabumi Traffic Police officer Yanuar Fajar told local media.

The victims, he said, are a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.

He continued that fire engines and personnel were also called to help evacuate the two deceased trapped in the smashed vehicle.

He also said that police were still carrying out an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Deadly road accidents are common in the Southeast Asian country due to overloading, poor road conditions and reckless driving.
