YANGON, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- More than 200,000 domestic tourists and over 4,000 foreign tourists visited museums across Myanmar from early April 2023 to early February 2024, Win Pa Pa Maw, assistant director of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum told Xinhua on Monday.
There are 29 national museums under the Department of Archaeology and National Museum. Over 110 million kyats (about 52,380 U.S. dollars) were received from tourist arrivals to the museums during the mentioned period.
Among these museums, the National Museum of Myanmar (Yangon), National Museum of Myanmar (Nay Pyi Taw), Bagan Archeological Museum, Mandalay Cultural Museum have attracted the most visitors, she said.
More tourists visited museums than in previous years, she noted, adding that the increase in tourism flow increased the country's income and contributed to the preservation of culture.
She urged that the youth should come to museums to learn about the country's history and culture. ■
