ISLAMABAD, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday postponed polling in four constituencies owing to the deaths of candidates participating in the country's general elections to be held on Thursday.

According to statements on the ECP website, elections were postponed in one constituency of the National Assembly, or the lower house of the parliament, and three constituencies of the provincial assemblies.

Now, people will vote to elect 265 National Assembly seats instead of a total of 266.

Voting will also be held for 590 provincial assembly seats instead of 593 in four provinces of the country, according to the ECP data.

New polling dates for these constituencies will be announced after consultations with relevant stakeholders, ensuring sufficient time for campaigning and logistical arrangements, added the ECP.

Earlier on Tuesday, the ECP said all arrangements for the polling day had been completed, with the establishment of around 90,000 polling stations and the deployment of polling staff as well as security personnel across the country.
