GANGNEUNG, South Korea, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's Shin Jia says she is ready to give it her all at Gangwon 2024 as the figure skating events kicked off on Saturday.

"I want to show everything I have prepared," Shin told Olympics.com on Friday. "I want to focus on myself and my performance."

"I will be very happy to win a medal, but there are more competitions to come so I need to work even harder. I hope to achieve good results by giving it my best. It will be very special to win a medal in my country, but it will be very competitive," she added.

At the Junior Grand Prix Final in Beijing last December, Shin was runner-up to Shimada Mao of Japan, who won her second successive crown with a triple Axel and quadruple toeloop.

In what will be the first and last Winter Youth Olympic Games for the two, Shin said she had been uncompromising in her preparation, adding that she hoped it would be enough to give her the edge over Shimada.

"I always try to identify my weaknesses and work on improving them after every competition," Shin said.

"For Gangwon 2024, I have dedicated more time to programme components. I aim to express myself in a more charming way, so I have been practising extensively."
