YANGON, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has kicked off the 23rd Arts and Science Research Conference at the Naypyitaw State Academy in capital Nay Pyi Taw, the official media Myanma Alinn reported on Friday.
Speaking at the opening event on Thursday, Myanmar's State Administration Council chairman Min Aung Hlaing highlighted the significant role of research conferences and paper reading sessions in promoting educational advancements and fostering human resources.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of quality research for socioeconomic progress, saying that quality research can help create jobs, establish new factories, reduce production costs and drive technological and creative innovation.
He also said that research is the lifeblood of universities and contributes to the knowledge and expertise of teachers and students. Continued innovation through new findings can benefit society and facilitate the emergence of experts.
To support these endeavors, the country has pledged to annually increase research expenses for universities, expand research laboratory equipment, and establish new research centers, he said.
Organized by the Ministry of Education, the three-day conference includes paper reading sessions and discussion of 314 research papers from universities and researchers across the country.
The event, attended by rectors, pro rectors, officials, researchers, professors, lecturers and students, is scheduled to continue until Jan. 27. ■
