KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Heavy continuous rain is expected in four states across Malaysia, the Meteorological Department warned on Tuesday.
The states affected include Pahang, Johor and the northern Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak, the department said in a statement.
It also urged the public to monitor official channels for updates on the situation.
Meanwhile, 277 people have been displaced because of flooding in the states of Johor, Pahang and Sabah and are being housed in seven flood relief centers, according to the country's social welfare department.
The meteorological department has issued warnings of heavy rains due to the northeast monsoon, which typically lasts from October to March, with strong winds and rough seas expected, in northern states and the east coast of the Southeast Asian country. ■
