Over 2 tons of ice, 800 kg of controlled chemicals seized in Myanmar

YANGON, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar police force has seized over 2 tons of ice and 800 kg controlled chemicals with a street value of more than 51.87 billion kyats (about 24 million U.S. dollars) in Shan State and Yangon Region, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) late Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, police seized 65 kg methamphetamine (ice) from a vehicle searched in a joint operation in Ywangan Township in Shan State on Dec. 3.

Meanwhile, 865 kg ice was seized at a warehouse in Shwepyitha Township, Yangon on Dec. 4.

On Dec. 7, 1,140 kg ice and 800 kg controlled chemicals caffeine were confiscated from a vehicle in South Okkalapa Township, Yangon.

According to the investigations, the seized drugs were being conveyed from Shan State to Yangon Region.

The suspects involved in the cases were charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law and further investigation was underway, the committee said.
