KABUL, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of women's handicrafts has been held in west Afghanistan's Herat province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported on Tuesday.
Aimed at exploring market for the women-made handicrafts, the four-day event would try to introduce the local-made women's handicrafts as part of efforts to find clients and sign contracts to develop the handiwork industry, organizers said.
Quoting Behnaz Saljuqi, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Women in western Afghanistan, the state-controlled media outlet said such exhibition could help empower businesspeople to bolster their economic activities.
Similar expos have also been launched to display women's handicrafts in other Afghan cities, including the capital Kabul, over the past year.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to support women economic activities within the framework of Sharia or Islamic Laws. ■
