VIENTIANE, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- China is funding a teacher training project as part of efforts to improve the education system in Laos, the Lao national TV reported on Thursday.
Under the project funded by the Chinese government, 1,000 teachers and school administrators will take part in a training course on Nov. 13-26. In addition, 2,000 teachers and school administrators will have the opportunity to attend a training course in China.
Lao Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Sourioudong Sundara thanked the Chinese government and people for their support to the venture, which he said would help to raise the standard of education and improve the work done by school teachers and managers.
Participants in the course would learn a lot and be able to put their new knowledge and skills to good use, Sourioudong said.
The project will help to improve teaching and learning and result in better qualified students, as well as strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the governments and parties of Laos and China, according to the report. ■
