ISLAMABAD, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistan Red Crescent Society is set to construct model shelter houses for flood-hit families across the country, local reports said on Saturday.

The society has recently completed a survey in flood-affected areas to identify the places where the houses will be built for the people who were affected by last year's flood, the reports added.

A total of 5,000 model shelter homes will be constructed in the flood-effected areas with a main focus on southwest Balochistan and south Sindh provinces which were the worst-hit in the 2022 floods.

Each family's house will have two rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom, and the total cost of construction for each residence will be about 200,000 rupees (about 718.4 U.S. dollars), said the reports.

The organization got funds from both local and foreign donors for the construction of the houses, the local reports said.

The construction of the model shelter homes will start next year, the reports added.

According to the country's National Disaster Management Authority, 1,739 people were killed and 12,867 others injured in the most devastating floods in the country's history in 2022.

The floods incurred economic losses of 15.2 billion U.S. dollars to Pakistan besides submerging one-third of the country and affecting 33 million people.
