Myanmar exports over 400,000 tons of black grams in over 6 months

YANGON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar exported more than 414,469 tons of black grams over the first six months of the current fiscal year 2023-24, according to the country's Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.

From April 1 to Oct. 13 this year, the Southeast Asian country earned over 369 million U.S. dollars from the exports of black grams, the ministry's figures showed.

Myanmar shipped over 412,838 tons of the black grams via sea route, while it exported over 1,631 tons through land border during the cited period, the ministry said.

According to the ministry's figures, the export of black grams in the period was up from over 262,687 tons exported in the same period of over six months last year.

Myanmar's total exports of beans and pulses, including black grams, reached over 908,869 tons during the first six months of this fiscal year, the figures showed.

The country exports beans and pulses mainly to China, India, and European countries.

Beans and pulses are Myanmar's second-most cultivated crops after rice and account for over 30 percent of the total agricultural production.
