BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah has consented to the recommendation to strip the membership of the Privy Council and title of Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar, which has been bestowed upon Haji Awang Mohd Nawawi, local news reports said on Friday.
According to an announcement carried on the Borneo Bulletin, the Sultanate's biggest daily, and Radio Television Brunei, the country's national broadcaster, Haji Awang Mohd Nawawi, who had served as the sultan's private and confidential secretary for decades, was also stripped all state decorations and medals bestowed upon him by the sultan's command.
The announcement said that the date of stripping his membership and title, including all state decorations and medals, took effect on Thursday.
Haji Awang Mohd Nawawi is a well-known political and social figure in Brunei. The announcement did not disclose the reason for the sultan's decision to strip all titles and honors of his ex-private, confidential secretary. ■
