GARDEZ, Afghanistan, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces discovered a vast quantity of arms and ammunition in east Afghanistan's Paktia province on Tuesday, said a statement of the provincial police headquarters on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the confiscated arms and ammunition include one piece of Kalashnikov, 40 hand grenades, thousands of bullets and explosives, and other illegally preserved ammunition. They were discovered during operations in the Police District Four of Paktia Province.
The statement did not mention if anyone had been arrested.
Afghan security forces have also discovered and seized weapon caches, including two pieces of Kalashnikov, a Tu-95 Bomber, two sets of walkie-talkies, and numerous bullets, kept by individuals illegally in Sari Pul province on the same day.
The Afghan caretaker government, which has discovered and seized thousands of light and heavy weapons, including battle tanks, since its taking over of the country's power in August 2021, has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside security organs. ■
