MAIDAN SHAR, Afghanistan, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered arms and ammunition, including nine AKM assault rifles in east Afghanistan's Wardak province, a statement of the provincial government said Thursday.
The weaponry includes nine pieces of Kalashnikovs, two machine guns, one pistol, one set of walkie-talkie and numerous bullets, kept by individuals illegally, the statement said.
In similar operations, police have discovered three pistols from individuals in the northern Samangan province.
The Afghan caretaker government, which has discovered and seized thousands of light and heavy weapons including battle tanks since its taking over the power of the country in August 2021, has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside security organs. ■
