ISLAMABAD, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and six others injured on Thursday in a collision between a van and a truck in Layyah of Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, the rescue service reported.
The rescue service said that the accident took place early morning in the Hafizabad area of the district when a van collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction after the tie rod of the van broke, killing seven people on the spot.
Promptly responding to the situation, the rescue workers reached the site and shifted the victims to a local hospital where one victim, later on, succumbed to injuries, it added.
The van was going from Bhakkar district of Punjab to Mian Channu district of the province, according to the rescue service. ■
