TOKYO, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks staged a sound rebound Thursday, buoyed by upbeat earnings reports from some major Japanese companies.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, rose 269.32 points, or 0.84 percent, from Wednesday to 32,473.65.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 20.94 points, or 0.92 percent, higher at 2,303.51.
Tokyo stocks opened lower but erased earlier losses and stayed in positive territory throughout the afternoon as investors took cues from solid earnings reports and optimistic forecasts released the previous day, dealers said.
Nippon Sheet Glass rose 100 yen, or 15.6 percent, to 739 yen, after the glass manufacturer raised its earnings forecast through March next year on the positive performance of its auto products.
Oil explorer Inpex surged 301.5 yen, or 16.6 percent, to 2,116 yen after announcing an increase in dividends and share buybacks. ■
