HANOI, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The Ultraviolet (UV) Index in most provinces and cities in Vietnam hit very high risk levels on Tuesday, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.

Ha Long, Hai Phong and Hanoi cities in the north; Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An and Nha Trang cities in the central; and Ho Chi Minh City in the south saw UV Index levels rise to 9 and above on Tuesday, Vietnam News Agency reported, citing the center.

From July 12-14, the UV Index in the north is expected to remain at very high-risk levels (9-10) and the south will experience very high risk levels (8-10), the news agency reported.

A UV Index of 8-10 (very high) means there is a high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Fair-skinned people may burn in less than 10 minutes.

Also on Tuesday, Hanoi, Ha Long, and Quy Nhon cities, and Ha Tinh province saw heat index at a dangerous level (41-54), where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely, and heat stroke is probable with continued activity.

Residents have been advised to protect themselves with sunlight protection clothes, hats and sunglasses as well as drink enough water.
