NEW DELHI, July 8 (Xinhua) -- A group of 63 Indian students left for Japan on Saturday for a week-long visit to a range of facilities from industrial organizations, museums, universities to research institutions, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Education.
During the educational tour, the students studying in senior high schools would gather first-hand information and knowledge which would help them and provide guidance in their career, added the statement.
The students are enrolled in government-run Kendriya Vidyalayas or Central Schools and Navodaya Vidyalayas, special schools for talented students in rural and remote areas.
The visit is a part of the students' exchange program between India's Ministry of Education and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
The JST along with the Indian ministry's Department of School Education and Literacy has run the Sakura Science High School Program under the Sakura Science Program (SSP) since 2014.
Indian students are invited under the program for a short-term visit to Japan, which is expected to give them the opportunity to experience Japan's cutting-edge science and technology as well as its culture, according to the education ministry's statement.
Indian students participated in the program for the first time in April 2016. So far 411 students along with 69 supervisors have visited Japan under this program. ■
