ULAN BATOR, July 6 (Xinhua) -- More than 700 infrastructure facilities have been hit by floods in Mongolia's capital Ulan Bator, said Dolgorsuren Sumiyabazar, mayor of the city, on Thursday.

"Currently, there are dangerous situations in 18 locations of six central districts of Ulan Bator. At least 702 infrastructure facilities such as roads, bridges, dams and power transmission lines have been damaged by the rain-triggered floods in the city," Sumiyabazar told a press conference.

In addition, basements or first floors of more than 100 residential buildings, hundreds of traditional yurts and vehicles have been flooded in the city.

The mayor has issued an order to close some roads in Ulan Bator for an indefinite period.

It has started raining in the city from Sunday evening, and the water levels of major rivers in and around the city such as Selbe River and Tuul River have exceeded warning levels.

The capital, home to nearly half of Mongolia's 3.4 million population, is expected to see more rain until the end of the week.
